Federal Prison Designation Assistance

Inmate Designation & Custody Classification

While the BOP has policies classifying inmates to specific custody and security levels, no real effort is made to determine exactly where a defendant should go. So I’m going to explain how inmate designation works and how we can assist an inmate in getting sent to an institution near their home.

A main concern of those going to Federal Prison is where they’ll serve their time. With family visits being the main concern of most, being sent to a prison closest to the inmate’s home is normally ideal. Although a sentencing judge can make a designation recommendation to the BOP for inmate placement, many times this recommendation is not followed.

Inmate Prison Designation

While they may have a good idea, they are very often wrong. If a judge recommends a defendant to an institution that doesn’t fit BOP criteria, the BOP will normally assign the defendant wherever it sees fit, no matter the distance from home. While the BOP tries to place inmates with 500 miles of their homes, overcrowding has rendered these policies virtually meaningless.

RDAP Consultants are experts at positioning clients for favorable institutional designation. Our staff works diligently with attorneys to obtain specific and properly justified Judicial Recommendations. Our consultants know what the Federal Bureau of Prisons Designation and Sentence Computation Center (DSCC) in Grand Prairie, Texas look for when designating inmate placement.

Custody & Security Level Analysis

Improperly listed criminal history and Public Safety Factors (PSF) in an inmate’s profile and PSR, can seriously affect institutional designation, custody & security level classification and the entire term of incarceration. Each entry needs to be professionally scrutinized and addressed. RDAP Consultants examines defendants’ PSR’s in detail, to ensure the Federal Bureau of Prisons does not mistakenly misclassify them.

Larry Levine Fox News Apperances

A defendant having an incorrect PSF and Management Variable can seriously impact their ability to request near-release prison transfers, furloughs, and RDAP placement. While it’s impossible to guarantee placement in any given facility, RDAP Consultants can provide documentation from medical professionals, the Court, family members and a defendant’s legal team specifically to the BOP’s Designation Security Classification Center designed to influence a favorable designation.

We urge defendants going through the trial process to understand the relevance of having an accurate criminal history listed in their Pre-Sentence Report and how it can seriously affect the type of prison they go to, and the custody conditions they’ll be subject to.
